Why Remuera Toastmasters?

Our club has a diverse range of people. We have members ranging from early 20's to over 70, and a healthy mix of males & females. We have people in all sorts of occupations from students, engineers, architects, teachers and consultants to name a few. There is also a great diversity in our cultural mix. We have several members who have been involved with Toastmasters for many years - a real benefit because of their depth of experience and knowledge.

We think the attitudes and style of a club make a big difference to how rewarding it is to be a member. Those attitudes and values are reflected in the 3 values the club holds dear.

These three values are - Participate, Practice, Present.

Participate:

If you’re unsure at first, come along as a guest for a meeting - it’s free! We understand it’s scary, but you won’t walk away from the meeting without having gained something.

In order to understand how a meeting is run and if our club is right for you, you must Participate. And don’t worry, you won’t have to say a word in front of an audience as a guest if you don’t want to.

Our meetings are in the evening at 6:15PM every second Wednesday. At each meeting we have a break and supper (provided by one of our members).

After all - you can't perform at your best if your blood sugar is low!

Present:

After you’ve participated in a meeting and done a bit of practice, whether that be through observing how a meeting is run or by revising your speech, it’s time to present.

Presenting can be the most difficult aspect of public speaking for people, experts included!

However it can easily be the most rewarding and you will see yourself change from shaking in nervousness to confidently walking into any situation and delivering a killer presentation.

Practice:

Whether it’s public speaking, going for a run or learning how to slice an onion, everything takes Practice.

Remuera Toastmasters is a safe, non-critical environment where you can comfortably practice, make mistakes, and get better at the art of speaking.

Each member is involved in speaking, and each members speech is evaluated by another member. Trying something new is not only accepted - it's encouraged.

It's only by pushing the boundaries that we learn and grow.

A few words from Manjula, one of our relatively new members.

The biggest motivation for me to continue my participation in Remuera Toastmasters is the friendly & family atmosphere. The team at Remuera Toastmasters is really supportive of each other.
